Produced at the height of the Poll Tax uprising that was to finally destroy the Thatcher Government and bring an end to the awful ’80s, ‘Jack and the Poll Tax’ was a light hearted christmas pantomime written by the cast – although mainly Brian Smedley and Mac McCausland.
The show featured Alexia Vernon as ‘Little Red Cinders’ and Smedley as her tyrannical father Dennis Riding Hood, while McCausland stalked the stage asĀ villain supreme ‘Bad Sir Bastard’ with his false black moustache atop his red beard.
Some classic songs included the Smedley/McCausland ballad ‘We’ll be in love forever’ sung in beautiful harmony by Alexia and her ‘prince’ (Bonny Prince Wayne of Castle Cary-played by Ann Fraser) and the Vernon-Smedley composition ‘Dave the Snooker Table’ while McCausland delivered the Smedley song ‘Bad Sir Bastard’.…and here they are…
